PROJECT OVERVIEW
Graduate design research reinterpreting Istanbul’s historic Haliç Imperial Shipyards through archaeology, architectural fiction, and digital representation. The proposal treats the drydock as a speculative archaeological landscape where fragmented remains are excavated, reconstructed, and transformed into autonomous architectural artifacts.
Rather than restoring historical forms, the project hybridizes extracted profile geometries and uses shadow projection to generate new three-dimensional primitives. These reconstructed fragments populate the shipyard basin as an invented collection of architectural evidence, shifting between object, ruin, and inhabitable form.
The resulting landscape deliberately destabilizes distinctions between historical documentation and design authorship, using representation itself as a method for questioning preservation, authenticity, and architectural identity.

GEOMETRY BEFORE USE
Inhabitation follows the reconstructed geometry rather than prescribing it. Appropriation, adaptation, and misreading allow the artifacts to acquire uses without resolving their uncertainty as objects, ruins, and architectural evidence.

The reconstruction returns to its source no longer as a copy of the shipyard, but as another possible reading of it.
